This is from a family of warmup drills that we do as part of basic fight movement training. In this version we are in a kneeling lunge position to remove the legs from the movement equation. Now the shoulder and arm complex is forced to move more and to move better in relation to the core. Everytime the leg position is changed, the core position changes, and all that can alter the way the shoulder wants to move. We have lots of these basic attack / defense drills. Kneeling lunge. 2 knees down kneeling. Dragon cross step, advance retreat, lying down, back to the wall, seated in seiza, seated in chair. Etc.. Any position we can think of we should train basic attack defense movement patterns in until they all become smooth.
