This is from a posting on antique radios that I am also a member of. Note how the four 833 tubes are mounted in this old 1kW Gates AM BC band transmitter. The bottoms of the tubes are the filament/cathode and would be at low Voltage which makes it OK for a wood support. As an RF engineer (retired) I cannot believe this particular piece was factory original. But this does have some merits with regard to a VT Tesla Coil. I would have expected at least some side support on the tubes, but this does allow for good air circulation.
