This is from my dear sweet friend in art and soul, Victor Forbes of Fine Art Magazine Dear Friends, As you listen to this, as loud as possible, give a few moments to consider the era of this performance, what led up to it and what it ultimately became. Clapton put more money on the table than Bramlett resulting in Radle, Gordon & Whitlock flying off to England to jam with Edward and then back to Florida where Duane Allman joined the band and LAYLA was created. I am honored to say that I met my collaborator on THE SWEETEST WAY HOME -- MICHELE BRAMLETT -- through Delaney Bramlett. Some years ago, I found his web page and wrote a fan letter regarding DELANEY & BONNIE & FRIENDS at Carnegie Hall in the early Summer of 1971. Our little Bronx Community crowd would meet on Sundays and wed rent bikes and ride through Central Park. I remember one time Thomas Campbell joined us and he open tuned his guitar and busted out a very good Suite Judy Blue Eyes. After it ended, Susan and I walked down 7th Ave. and we turned on 57th Street (where I spent years 5-10) coming upon a single billboard behind glass on the front of Carnegie Hall. THIS AFTERNOON, SUNDAY at 3:30 PM DELANEY & BONNIE & FRIENDS. It didnt say anything else. Tickets were $3.50, $4.50 & 5:50. No wonder he couldnt give those boys pay raises. Thats how it went and thats how it still goes in the music business. For those modest ticket prices, we were seated in a third or fourth tier box about 40 feet up and not much farther from the stage so that we were on a direct line with the guest artists: King Curtis and Duane Allman. It was just one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, totally out of the blue and the nice thing is, as I hearken back to that afternoon, was that we went for DELANEY & BONNIE & FRIENDS and were more than happy for whatever surprises would come our way. So props to D & B and what I wrote to Delaney was something like this, Caught that first Carnegie Hall show with Duane & King Curtis and will never forget you coming out to the middle of the stage, after the show ended, and shouting out loud, Thank GOD for Duane Allman! I asked if there was any recording and you said not that you know of and after another correspondence, I told you about my work in the art area and you asked me to do something for your daughter, Michele Bramlett, who was and remains forever, an artist. After a few years time, Michele and I corresponded and then met in person just as she was getting ready to migrate back to the West Coast. We worked together on couple of projects and I asked her to illustrate THE SWEETEST WAY HOME. Thats one of the things I love about our process --- it came out of respect and admiration for her Dad who I never met in person. He was called home to Heaven a few weeks after my own father died in December of 2008. It was a few years before the book was finished and our date of publication is June, 2012. We have wonderful success with the book in small doses, but we want to change that now. It is time to spread the word and move up the Amazon Childrens Book chart. Victor Forbes Thanks VICTOR! Thank you for EVERYTHING youve done for me. I really really love you honey...LYSGIES Michele
