This is from my sister, Anne Potter Delorie, who has lived in Nairobi, Kenya, since 1976. I visited her in 2011 and they were starting a war with Somalia because they were trying to recruit-invade Kenya. This is not a lone madman - this is a concerted effort by lawless thugs from the most lawless country in the world to spread their discontent... Dear All We are all safe – Thank God! It is a blessing that I do not ordinarily shop that side of town. I went to a nearer branch of one of the shops at Westgate to get a gourmet cake that they thankfully had in stock, otherwise I would have headed over to that mall! It is a sad situation indeed and I know of people who were shot, and to be sure I will be hearing of people who have died when all the dust settles. There is a huge international community including regional United Nations Staff, Staff of many Embassies including the US Embassy that live over that end of town not to mention the upper middle and upper class that frequent that Mall. I believe that this is precisely why it was targeted – to maximize impact. Every time one would go to the Mall we would have our cars searched with mirrors and our trunks gone through. All handbags and parcels were also searched at the door, however, we have no guarantees in this life and this attack was well thought out and orchestrated. From the eye witnesses these attackers just went up to innocent people including women and children shooting them execution style without a blink of the eye. Those witness’s who lived to tell the tale, were horrified at the heartless cold-blooded technique to these killings. It appears that there are still bodies in the mall that the authorities have not yet located at this point as the killing spree covered a large area, people found hiding placing throughout the premises, and bodies would not have been removed during the attack, even though many have recovered subsequently from secured areas by the authorities. This is a sad day indeed for Kenya. With anarchy in the neighboring country of Somalia that is a failed state definitely has its risks. This type of scenario is also why the West is concerned about the Middle East situation and the security risks that come with it. Be sure this is not Islamic but madness! Stay Safe XXXX Anne Delorie
