This is going to be a long post getting into the nooks and crannies of Facebook intricacies, so you may not be interested in reading all of this. I would be very interested in the opinions of Andrea Sodergren Vahl, Kelly Noble Mirabella, Jonathan Christian and Rebecca Coleman and I thank you folks in advance for any comments you may share. If your assistance requires some form of payment, Im happy to pay you. If anyone else reading this has any insight, Id love to hear it and I thank you in advance for your input. I have a Facebook page (youre looking at it right now) with about 5000 friends and a Facebook fan page with about 1700 fans. I decided to stop using my fan page about eight months ago and to only use my personal page although I never deleted my fan page. Its just sitting there doing nothing because I dont post on it. For years now, about once a month I delete 100 or so folks from my personal page who are inactive accounts and people I dont really know who never like or comment on my posts. I do this to keep my friends below 5000 which is the Facebook limit for personal page friends. There are also 620+ people who follow my personal page in addition to my current 4988 friends. This is becoming unmanageable as more and more people are friending me and following me. I cant continue to try to cherry pick the people Im going to delete from my friends. The time and effort is too much. The time has probably come for me to merge the personal and the fan page into a new fan page and according to the research Ive done, it looks like this can be done. I just want one Facebook page. One place where I can post and interact with my friends (Im not a big fan of the word fan, although I know thats what Facebook calls the folks who like your fan page). I dont want to lose the connectivity I have with the folks I communicate with on Facebook. For me its always been and always will be about relationships. So here are my questions: 1) Over the years, I have created a Timeline archive of 5400+ Timeline photos and other multiple photo albums. If I were to merge my pages, would I lose these archives and would my fans no longer be able to access them? 2) Will people still be able to post on my fan page or would they just be able to comment on my posts? 3) Due to Facebooks Edge Rank or whatever its called now, would my future fan page posts get less visibility in peoples news feeds than my personal page posts? 4) What differences in functionality will there be between me and my fan page fans versus my current functionality between me and my personal page friends? 5) What other questions should I be asking and thinking about? Its never been my goal to be Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Brendan Burchard, Zig Ziglar, etc. Most Speaker/Authors are trying to get more visibility, fame, money, etc but thats never been it for me and Im not implying any slight against the names I just mentioned. I just have a different model. For me its about connecting, not about being a guru or something like that. I hope this all makes sense. If youve read this far, thanks for your attention. Thanks in advance for your comments and thanks for allowing me to bounce this off of you to get your insights. I appreciate your time and your friendship. God bless. Kev ツ
