This is going to be kinda long but maybe worth your time reading if you really know me-Yesterday I had another one of those things called a birthday. My day started with my dad calling me. He is ALWAYS the first one to wish me Happy Birthday, not sure if hes told everyone to wait until hes told me before they can call me but anyway he beats everyone to the Happy Birthday and I love you. While at work, I got a visit from my two oldest nephews before they went to school along with a sucker,(lol, thats all Konner could offer me) and a hug from each, and the I Love you. Closely behind those two was my daughter, she delivered three pink roses and a pumpkin cupcake and TWO hugs :) Throughout the day I had a lot of post on my facebook from all of you..THANK YOU! But the point to my status here is this. Every year I cant wait until the end of birth DAY. I find myself checking the clock to see the time and always making sure Im home by at least 7 p.m. and here is why. When I moved from Overland Park KS in January of 1974 (I was in 2nd grade) I was so scared to start a new school thinking I had left all my friends behind at Overland Christian Grade school but much to my surprise I quickly found a friend. And I dare say that not one of you have a friendship that has been as consistent as mine for this long of a stretch of time. It does not matter what day of the week my birthday falls on I am going to get a phone call towards the end of MY day from her. That phone call is NEVER under an hour and sometimes its more toward the two hour time. (I also call her on her birthday which is in March) We can always pick up right where we left off. We laugh, weve cried (and yip, yesterday was a cry one for me) When I pick the phone up I know what is going to come out of her mouth first, for the past 29 years its the same thing. Its not, Hi, this is Candice, or any other normal greeting, its always; with laughter in her voice Happy Birthday,(long and drawn out) how was your day? This year I did not answer that question, this year I replied by asking her one instead. I said, do you know how many years weve been doing this? I think I surprised her with the sound in my voice because she stopped laughing, and said she had no idea. I said 29. She was a little shocked I think.... 29 years, Really?!!! Im sure that I dont know anyone else who can say they still have contact with (every year) with a friend they found in 2nd grade but I DO!! I even have family that forgets my day, never even calling or texting to acknowledge the day that I was born, but she never fails me, shes never missed a year,... ever!! She does not have facebook so this post is not for her but for me as a statement to you, who took the time to read this that her and I have the rarest of rare when it comes to a Loyal Friend And that MY day, my birthday is ALWAYS complete when I hang that phone up from my friend that I found so many years ago! I have been blessed to have her! (And Brenda Wilson Tucker you can share this with her if you would like, since she is your niece :) ) If you took the time to read this I hope that it gave you a warm fuzzy feeling. There are true friends in this hateful world we live in and I have one!! Nearly 40 years!
