This is good news for everyone who gets their drinking water from the Southern Hills Aquifer (basically everyone between Lake Pontchartrain and Jackson, Ms and between the Pearl and the Mississippi rivers). Every well drilled to pursue oil in the Tuscaloosa Marine Trend punctures that Aquofer. Recent studies have shown that leaking casings on the vertical segments of those wells allow poisonous and carcinogenic FRACKING chemicals to leach up into the aquifers via those breaks in the cement. Heres a key paragraph from the article: “Basically, lower prices will hurt all plays, but the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, being so expensive, will be impacted the most,” said Kirk Barrell, chief executive officer of Amelia Resources LLC and author of the Tuscaloosa Trend blog. “It’s unfortunate timing because we continue to see excellent results.”
