This is great! I have had conversations with many different friends and loved ones over the years who have been struggling with what to do with their lives. One thing that I have observed in these conversations is there is this idea that if you have a purpose/path, it will be straightforward and immediately obvious. It doesnt quite work that way... I think that finding your purpose is an evolutionary process and not an event for most people. However, when we focus on it being an event and expect something to spontaneously occur, we overlook the very process that is unfolding in our lives. We are, as many would say, not present in the moment. We really have to listen to our WHOLE selves, which is something that we are often taught not to do in a school system that unnaturally compartmentalizes subject matter (rather than presenting it in an interdisciplinary format that is more natural to the young mind). This article does a good job of getting readers to reflect on their process/passions/path. For example, one of the questions is, What makes you forget to eat and poop? I remember the exact moment (age 27) when I realized that I had more patience for writing than... well, anything. It wasnt that I was in a state of ecstasy. Far from it! I was engrossed... and starving. I wondered where the time had gone... but it felt good that I was doing something productive rather than passive. I wanted to do more of it. And so I did.
