This is how it usually goes: you become aware of a terrible thing coming your way, or you’re faced with something that takes your breath away it’s so upsetting. You worry about it, try and maneuver it so that it can’t cause the harm it’s threatening. You try and talk or work your way around it, find people who might help and protect you – anything but look straight into the face of it lest you be obliterated by the force of its destructive promise. You chip away in whatever small way you can to make the thing go away so that you can retreat safely, again, into that comfortable place of no-challenge. But sometimes that just won’t do. Sometimes the force coming at you is relentless and uncompromising, as if it’s committed to your very collapse. This is when you have to rise – to the strength within you that needs honing and testing, to the alchemist in you that can take in the dark and transmute it to light. This is when you stop running away from your moment of truth and turn toward it with readiness and calm. The hero within you is being called up. Be wise with your response, but be fierce about it. This is your moment to step into who you’ve been preparing to be.
