This is how my wife Ellen decided to note our 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Wall Week. (Strictly speaking, its Bob Lemon and Karin Schutjers The Wall, since Karin and I are co-chairs of the committee.) Here are the events so that you too can mark your calendars in an amusing manner: Monday November 3rd, 12 - 1 PM: Lunch talk by Dr. Frank Usbeck Technical University of Dresden: Brothers in the Struggle against Imperialism - Indianthusiasm in Socialist East Germany.” Location: TBA (By reservation to Ronda Martin, [email protected]) Tuesday November 4th, 7-9 PM : “Back to the GDR Night” For OU students, with discussion hosted by two OU Faculty-in-Residence (Professor Mitchell Smith and Associate Dean Ingo Schlupp) (Open to OU Students only.) Walker Center. Wednesday November 5th, 1:15 PM - 6:30 PM: Symposium on the Fall of the Wall JJ. Rhyne Room, Zarrow Hall: Symposium Commemorating November 9th, 1989 Scholars from all over the country will present on different aspects of the Wende and reunification, including film, music, material culture, and, in my case, poetry. (Free and open to the public). Thursday November 6th, 7 PM: Screening of the film And Your Love Too. Meachum Auditorium, OMU. GDR, 1962, 92 min., B&W Dir. Frank Vogel. German with English subtitles. Introduction by Professor Sebastian Heiduschke, Oregon State University. (Free and open to the public) And finally, there are two essay competitions for OU students in which you can reflect on the end of the GDR and the Fall of the Berlin Wall: a multi-media essay competition, with a deadline of October 24, and a tradition one with a deadline of November 24th.
