This is how old I am. Saw the trailers (what I used to call previews) to the new Johnny Depp movie, Mortdecai, and I flashed back to a comedian from the 1960s that my dad used to love, a lock-jawed British dude named Terry-Thomas. Was he in Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World? I think so. Anyway, when I saw these trailers, I thought Johnny Depp was trying to do a version of Terry-Thomas, who I thought was genuinely funny. I dont mind an homage, but Im hearing that Mortdecai aint exactly that. Which makes me wonder: What happened to Johnnys red-hot career? As much as I have loved his stuff, Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger were real misfires, and this appears to be another one. In the meantime, the real Terry-Thomas for those who have fond memories of him (and it made me think of my dad, so count me in) or for those who want to see the real thing ....
