This is how we remembered our fallen brothers. After the quarterfinals were completed last Saturday, all the 2014 WWL staff and pilots traveled up the mountain to the spot where Victor Kovats lost his life during a practice flight for the 2013 race. In that place now stands a 5-meter-high bronze statue of an angel with outspread wings that commemorates Kovats and three other WWL athletes who died in the past year during wingsuit flights: Ludovic Woerth, Dan Vicary, and Jeff Nebelkopf. “Everyone was struck by the beauty of the statue and the peacefulness of the place where it sits,” said WWL president Iiro Seppanen. “We all wrapped our arms around each other and gave a moment of silence to our fallen friends, then threw flowers from the spot where Vic’s journey ended. It was a wonderful experience and we all thank the people of Zhangjiajie for their help and love in making it happen.”
