This is important: a news segment that does not misgender Leelah, - TopicsExpress

This is important: a news segment that does not misgender Leelah, mentions what her parents did to her (all be it briefly), and calls the tragedy like it is. I applaud the news segment for not misgendering her and for telling the story how it is. Its so sad to see how this had to play out and tragic to know that even in death her parents cant accept her; her mother misgendering her and saying she simply died by being hit by a bus, not that she committed suicide. I know there are some very religious people in this world, and I respect everyones right to do as they wish, but I cant understand how a parent could do such horrible things to their own kid. Her mother told her that God doesnt make mistakes and it was just a phase she was going through then proceeded to take her to Christian, bias therapists. They took her out of public school and took away her laptop and phone when she came out as gay to people at school and isolated her for 5 months. How people are able to blatantly do such things to the children they are supposed to protect - it blows my mind. I know that by posting this, Im not going to be accomplishing much. But I hate the fact that the world today is so ignorant and intolerant. Members of the LGBTQ community are not wrong, theyre not misguided, and they do not need you to pray for them because theyre going to go to hell. We know who we are and there is absolutely nothing wrong with who we are. Leelah knew who she was and if she would have gotten support, maybe she would have been able to actually accept that. The Bible was not meant for people to hide their bigotry behind and its about high time the world starts to realize that.
