This is important to me because I run a 501(c)(3) Rescue and experienced the most unprofessional and difficult 5 days attempting to pull dogs from this Shelter. The trip cost me $350, 2 volunteers staying overnight in a motel and a 9 hour r/t drive -- only to find out that 9 of the dogs were killed. They never were tagged for adoption even though I had TRIPLE CONFIRMED their availability for me to pull them at 5:45 the night before we arrived and had my volunteer at the front door at 7:30 am on their due out dates. Others werent even due out that day. When the City Hall Clerk was out of the office for a week, NOTHING GOT DONE. No one had an application to give to a Rescue group, no one could read an application already submitted. Nothing got done other than animals being killed when they could have been saved. The conditions of the animals (all of who were NOT VETTED and all had kennel cough) and the conditions of the shelter were disgusting. The staff DO NOT want to work with legitimate rescue groups and the so-called qualifying process is ridiculous. I guarantee they do not qualify adopters this way. And to be bullied into spaying and neutering 1 month old puppies that I pulled within 2 weeks or theyll take me to court? Really? I WILL NEVER spay or neuter a puppy that young! Take me to court. So sad and so frustrating. And so unnecessary. Im going to go back to working with Shelters who WANT and INVITE no kill rescues to pull their animals FOR FREE, who vet their animals and who embrace the no kill philosophy and are working to become NO KILL SHELTERS. The pic should be the pic of the dog sitting in his cell surrounded by feces. They remind me of the San Bernardino (L.A. County) Shelter. They should be shut down and funding should be stopped until they fire their director and the powers that be.
