This is in a great tradition of recent films which refuse to do the easy and formulaic thing (see All Is Lost), featuring Tom Hardy as a Welsh (?) construction foreman who ditches his job and family in the night to drive endlessly into the night towards a hazy goal. The writer/director Stephen Knight does a marvelous job at laying out a larger story through dribs and drabs of information, telling you all you need to know in the moment to stretch out tension as far as he can. Hardy is just the man to essay a gent on a fools errand, especially when his true motivation is made obvious. More like this, I say.
