This is in response to the handful of people in the area of Circle Park who are trying “to take back the park” and are planning to show up at Circle Park to “make a statement” and to “ask them to do their good deeds elsewhere.” (Note: these above statements are being directed to a group of ladies from a church who share food with the homeless each Wednesday at 1 pm. However, FNB was also mentioned.) Food Not Bombs Las Vegas had been sharing food with hungry people in Baker Park since 2008. FNB does not feed the homeless. FNB supports sharing, respect, peace, cooperation, dignity, a nurturing of the environment and most of all optimism at a time when many are in despair. You dont have to be hungry or homeless to participate. In fact, many of the folks are suffering economically and not homeless. And at times, they bring their children to eat and participate in community building. Baker Park served that purpose quite well until the City of Las Vegas fenced off the majority of the park with the picnic tables off limits to the public. This left no place for anyone to sit while eating and limited peoples ability to interact with one another. Nothing but the concrete ground is available. The childrens park, the soccer field, and the picnic tables are not available to the general public. FNB was told by the city and the city marshals that the fenced off area was privately leased for the soccer players. However, more often than not, there were no soccer players using that space. Several attempts were made to reconcile the situation receiving no responses or deflective excuses, and none offered an alternative solution. Therefore, the move back to Circle Park.
