This is in to response to Ian Lipkin,s announcement that the blood of patients reporting idiopathic fatigue and a variable number of somatic symptoms supplied mainly by Nancy Klimas contains no hitherto unknown pathogens Lipkin does not seem to be aware that the application of the Fukuda protocol does not lead to the diagnosis of a discrete disease but merely identifies people with several different illnesses.Ironically this is endorsed in the ICCME primer which give practical hints for the real word application of the iCCME guidelines which has Nancy Klimas as a lead author If he wants more money then he must insist on a scientific diagnosis. The blood of people complaining of chronic fatigue of idiopathic or psychiatric origin is always likely to be clean HE needs to identify people with a chronically activated immune system( because they have the highest likelihood of suffering from a hitherto poorly characterized neuroimmune illness)and then test DNA or RNA extracted from lymph tissue using unbiased next generation amplification. In other words he needs to do things properly
