An agent provocateur may (even) be (an under cover) police officer or ... a secret agent (someone specifically hired by someone) ... who encourages suspects to carry out a crime under conditions where evidence can be obtained; or who suggests the commission of a crime to another, in hopes they will go along with the suggestion and be convicted of the crime. eg. Politicians give police these powers so the police can be used to shut protesters up! What is going on right now in Ferguson is disgraceful. The hotels are filled with FBI and Homeland Security agents. One can only guess how many of them are there to play the roll of agents provocateur so that yet more black people can be beaten and taken hostage by the legal system and end up having to sell their homes to pay legal fees in order to prove their innocence. THIS commonly used form of abuse of police powers needs to be stopped IMMEDIATELY. Hey, BTW, does Canada REALLY want its RCMP to start acting like the FBI does in dealing with minorities and those with legitimate complaints against governments? One mans enemy of the state is another mans legitimate social activist freedom protestor - think Martin Luther King Jr, think Nelson Mandela, think Mahatma Gandhi, think local union leaders, think - anyone who ever writes a letter or sends and email to their government or posts a comment complaining about the government!!! They see us all as a threat to national security unless we agree with them about everything???
