This is key in the Salaita debacle and any chance of moving - TopicsExpress

This is key in the Salaita debacle and any chance of moving forward: how can UIUCs Senate pretend to work on this issue in good faith when they have already publicly staked their claims? Of more interest to me and other academics advocating on behalf of Steven Salaita and the issues this case represents is the inquiry under way by a subcommittee of the university’s Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure. That subcommittee is part of our academic senate at Illinois, but its members consider it to have strict independence. This is in stark contrast to the Senate Executive Committee, many of whose members, including its chair, vice chair, and two former chairs who remain members, have publicly supported Chancellor Phyllis Wise’s actions through op-eds in the local press and paid advertisements by faculty members and local business leaders.
