This is kind of weird to write on a fb status, but I decided to put it out there for anyone who wants to see. A couple of high school seniors have been inquiring about USC, what its like, and my personal intake on why its a great school. And it made me think back on the original reasons why I chose to come to this school, and how things have changed. I am a different person than I was when I first stepped onto campus as a freshman. That might sound meaningless or all-knowing, but I really say that with confidence and sincerity, because USC has given me peers, experiences and opportunities that I couldnt have had anywhere else. To be honest, my college experience so far has mostly been full of mistakes and poor decisions, but I know I still have room to live up to my potential. Why? Because I attend a school that almost acts as my family. I am okay making mistakes because instead of punishing me, USC has helped me get back up every single time. There has never been a time where a professor, adviser, or friend didnt support me whenever I needed it. I am gaining an incredible worldly experience being surrounded by the unique plethora of organizations, events, and classmates that only USC possesses. I chose this school because of very typical/general reasons, like wanting to receive a private university education, an awesome campus, and Annenberg being one of the worlds top journalism schools. But being here has definitely allowed me to discern why USC is different from all the colleges out there. USC truly cultivates you as an individual, and makes you grow more than just intellectually. It is really such a colorful and wild place to be, and there is no freaking way you can leave this school without learning something outside the classroom. Coming here has made my mind open up, my thoughts wander, my ideas grow, my confidence form, and friendships bloom. As a current sophomore, Im right in the middle of my four years here, and before I know it, Ill be graduating. And theres one thing Im sure of; is that USC is truly a home and always will be. The Trojan family is REAL. Just as a professor can make or break a class, the people are ultimately what makes a big school truly stand out. And as a Trojan, you will always be a part of something amazing--a family. Being a Trojan can get you to places you never thought youd go. Being a Trojan is a special part of your identity that will follow you for the rest of your life, and something you will never regret choosing. Faithful. Scholarly. Skillful. Courageous. Ambitious. Five values, character traits, goals. Making up one Trojan. I strive to be great, and I know I can count on my school to guide me in the right path. Fight on! :)
