This is kinda related lol....I was googling bomber nose art and was going through the images and came across this pic I screenshot it and made it my lock screen background on my phone....I love this pic it shows how dangerous the unfriendly skys were back then when these brave young men were experiencing....usually (in my experience) when I discuss the bomber crews of ww2 and earlier we talk about the missions and fighter threats but noone ever mentions the flak so thick you could almost walk to your target....I dont even want to pretend what that must have felt like to cross the enemy coast and start seeing puffs of black getting closer and closer suddenly you look on as holes are being shredded in the sides of your ship seeing your friends being injured of worse from the shrapnel....iv only met a few ww2 bomber vets 1 was a tail gunner and 1 was a waist gunner both served on b17s over Germany....I never ask them to tell me a story out of respect I know it took them decades to try and suppress those memories and nightmares and the last thing i want to do is remind them of the hell the experienced....I do is thank them from the bottom of my heart for serving our country most voluntarily others on their own accord never the less THANK YOU to all our Veterans past, present, and future!
