This is laughable, and revealing of the modern conservative movement and its alienation from constitutionalism. To wit: The federal government violates the Constitution by funding and regulating education at all levels. Schools, including religious universities, ignore those constitutional violations because...they want the government funding. Lots of their students walk in with federal grants, loans, and other forms of government assistance, as well as grants that go right to the schools themselves. But government funding comes with regulatory strings attached. When those strings pull against the religious views at some of the religious schools accepting unconstitutional government funding, they then protest in the name of religious liberty. Theyre saying, in effect: How dare you government officials tells us what to teach about social or moral subjects! But please keep the money coming. Just dont tell us what to do with it. Nah, this isnt about religious liberty. Everyone is still free to go the church they wish, worship as they please, or not worship at all. Rather, its simply a case of government-funded schools being subject to government regulations. If people at these schools really want the freedom to follow the curricula of their choosing, then get government funding AND government regulations out of their schools. There are a few models that exist. It can be done. Its just much harder work than signing a paper that opens the spigot of government money. And once that spigot is opened, the regulations are sure to follow.
