This is more than a little disappointing: WORT FM has an Access Hour on Monday nights where folks from the community can sign up to do unique programming as a sort of one-off thing. Its a great service and a great forum. But I am deeply disheartened to see that it will be playing host to a show that will give significant time and praise to radical anti-trans activist Sheila Jeffreys. This is, in my mind, equivalent to giving equal time to someone like Todd legitimate rape Akin, in that theyre both laughably irrelevant and pretty horribly bigoted. If youre not familiar with Jeffreys, feel free to start at the link and work your way through a path of tears and hair tearing on the internet. Simply put: Jeffreys is a TERF and TERFs have been waging a systematic war against transgender people and their allies for many years. They have no place calling themselves feminists, and their words and actions have done a great deal of very real harm to people I call friends and family. The show is scheduled to air on Nov. 3 from 7-8 p.m. Tune in to judge for yourself.
