This is more than just the US; I always wonder how people survive - TopicsExpress

This is more than just the US; I always wonder how people survive down here on $5.25 an hour, less than $1000 a month, less than. $12,000 a year and have a family to support. Im a single woman, who fortunately does not have to pay rent and still find it difficult to live on my salary. With RTCPF handing out $300 - $1000 tickets, a gallon of gas and in some cases milk still costing more than the minimum wage, how do we survive? A loaf of bread alone can range anywhere between $3 - $10. Oranges cost $6.99, apples $5.99, pineapple $6.95, cantelope $5.99. And this is just provo; on our sister islands, prices are much higher! So you telling me if I was working minimum wage, I would have to bust my ass twice as hard to afford a bag of oranges, 2 whole hours out of my pay just to ensure my children are eating properly? Yes theyre raising the minimum wage to $6.25, but fruits still cost more than this. And this still makes me question if the government will really crack down on business to ensure they are paying employees the minimum wage and not exploiting them. We need not a minimum wage but a LIVING WAGE. This is why Cayman is so prosperous because they understand that you cant price imported goods twice as high and expect the people making twice as low to be able to afford it. Our salaries need to match our economy! My question TCI is simply HOW ARE WE SURVIVING?
