This is my December message on Walking in the Spirit for the Nigerian paper I write for, Global Warfare Ministries, last month you guys were requesting that I post it and I couldnt.......Walking in the Spirit, is essentially, doing everything to the glory of God....Walking in the flesh is, one doing whatever they want to do, pleasing themself, and ignoring the prompting of God, through the Spirit. When we believe that God has spoken a Word to us, we are to wait to act, until peace fills our soul do to what He has instructed us to do. This way we know that we are operating in His timing and not our own. Let emotions subside, then decide....Igoring emotion and flesh and waiting for peace, makes us obedient to Spirit, and is confirmation that we are truly hearing from God. The Spirit of God is a gracious personal presence who lives in one who has confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord. Relationship to God through Christ by the Spirit is revolutionary. Gods Spirit comes to us based on our faith in Christ and His grace (Galatians 3:1-5), His Spirit comes into the believers life with assurance that we are Gods children (Romans 8:16). The Spirit is Gods pledge to His children that we will be FULLY transformed and conformed to the image of Jesus (Romans 8:1- 28; 2 Corinthians 1:22) The evidence that a person is truly walking in the Spirit, is love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control (Galatians 5:22-23). Walking in the Spirit, is to seek the will of God, then to pursue it....Much of the time we are led by the Spirit, THROUGH the Word of God, through Scripture itself. Meditating on Scripture and conducting Spiritual warfare, are both factors of walking in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit reminds us of the promises of God, it enables us to rebuke the devil and sin, giving us power that we alone would never have. Abiding in the Spirit, is something that happens when we are born again, His presence is ever with us. We are to focus on things above us, and all other things we need will be added to our life. Being responsive to, and setting your mind on, the things of God...whether eating, drinking, sleeping or working, do ALL things unto the glory of God, is to walk in the Spirit. Walking with God is a process that comes with maturity in Christ, we are all human and of course will sometimes make mistakes and follow flesh, thinking its Spirit. One of the ways we can try the spirits, is to ask ourselves always, What would Jesus do in this situation? If the answer is anything contrary to what your doing, then your walking in your own desires and not of those of Spirit...
