This is my artists statement for an application I am turning in. What do you think? I am part naturalist and part artist, always trying to gain an understanding about the natural world and also trying to record and interpret it for others. Even though my sculptures depict animals, my latest body of work is about human relationships. The fact that I am a mother is no coincidence; I spend a lot of my time thinking about the relationships between myself and my children, and their relationships to each other. I make art to help me gain clear ideas about what I see in the world, and it helps me to see how I relate to others as well. I think that there is much healing that happens when we relate to another person through common experiences. I hope that those who view my work can see the echos of their own lives and relationships in my work.
