This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. The priest raised his arms from the pulpit upon the congregation of almost 300. The new faces of those keeping their resolutions had contributed to the large outturn. His right hand held a bread crumb, the left, a goblet filled with red wine. He turned to make an eye signal to five priests on his left. They bowed and he went ahead to face the congregation. Eat the bread His voice resonated through the cathedral. Hands lifted almost simultaneously to chew the crumb which had been doled out earlier. That was when it started; strange acts among the people. The priest proceeded without noticing. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you Turning right to another line of five priests, he signaled and faced the congregation again Take the wine. They did and the strange deeds escalated Immediately, different individuals from random locations began spitting out. They screamed while others ate on and digested the contents in their cavities. Blood …blood! You served us blood! A lanky man yelled from the back. He smashed his cup on the terrazzo and began moving furiously towards the front pew. Those who hadnt spat rolled their tongues, inspecting the content of their mouths with confused faces. They had tasted no blood. An old woman, about 85 broke down, humping forward with a crooked finger pointed at the priests. why is your church mocking me....You fed me meat! without any bloody teeth! The lanky man and five others had reached the priest, and were all over him. They pulled on his white robe while the ten others defended. The old woman wobbled behind, her joints disorder slowing her steps. The priests were lost in the growing commotion. Theyd conducted countless other communions but this had taken a fearful turn. Despite coming from the same plate, some people had tasted bread and wine, while others had munched flesh and blood. Communion cups began crashing on the floor as people, especially the new comers left their seats in anger. Seated in another corner of the cathedral were handicapped individuals; the paralyzed, amputees, blind. They were making their complaints too. All of them had tasted the flesh and blood. The old woman got to the priests and began giving her quota to putting them in distress. Soon, the handicapped left their seats to join the mob in front. Their wheelchairs became empty as they marched forward. They were almost getting there when it suddenly dawned on them and the congregation; they had been walking on their legs! The feeble legs had suddenly gained strength, new limbs had sprouted out of amputated parts. Everyone stopped, silence took over. Legs gave way. Tear glands sprang into action as tears dribbled down cheeks. People with one ailment or two raced out of their positions, screaming of how their defects had suddenly vanished. The old woman released her toothless mouth from the priest’s arm to feel a comfort she hadnt in years.
