This is my boy, Ilyushka (Илюшка Николаевич). - TopicsExpress

This is my boy, Ilyushka (Илюшка Николаевич). Today, he passed away at age 14. he received an overdose of anesthetic when complications with his intestinal lymphoma became unbearable. I got him from a shelter in Hemet, CA five years ago when my previous boy, Havoc, passed away. I thought he would make great company for Cinnia, the female who survived Havoc. truly, i was trying to deal with the loss i was feeling and projecting onto her. plus, i always wanted a Russian Blue. After living one year in a kill shelter, he made it abundantly clear that he was appreciative to have a real home. Constant hugs, head butts, and invitations to pick him up made him a great friend. also, the dead pan look on his face made every action mechanical hilarity. he was slow, clumsy, and was without any restraint when it came to food. When i left the house, i was told he would meow at the door for me. his day consisted of sunbeams, stretching, napping, vacant stares, stealing Rebeccas sandwiches, eating unguarded desserts, and climbing onto chests to nuzzle. in fact, he made the rounds of climbing on Jennifer, Niles Zee, Craig, Matt, Nina, or even poor house guests like Jason McCann or James or Dalan. I put some photos up that are fairly old for a reason. cancer is hell on anyone who develops it. for the last year, it has been a battle of different medicines and special diets. i would rather remember him as the guy in these photos: a hollow eyed, teddy bear, that will eat anything from vegan cheesecake to hot sauce to an entire bowl of nutritional yeast. After leaving the vet, Rebecca and I toasted to Ilya the only way he would have appreciated: ate a pizza and cookies for dinner. then we drove home, and I buried him in the front yard under a bush. Спокойной ночи, сынок Джим. (good night, Sonny Jim).
