This is my boy Storm out of my OTTB mare Violette Jolie - (some of you may remember his hiccup video!) I need some opinions - I know this group is highly educated and a lot of you guys have some great knowledge! I noticed about two months ago that my guy was always resting his back left leg. He would spook, and as soon as he came to rest hed be cocking that leg. He switched occasionally, but it was mostly the left. I noticed a slight hitch in his walk, he looked stiff, but he looked fine at the trot. The thing that probably alarms me the most is how he stands like this. He is slightly toed out in the back, but not like this. And he wont correct it until he takes a step forward. Sometimes he stands with that toe in (will put picture in comments) otherwise he is 100% balanced. I rarely have him trip, if I turn him out hell run around like a nut like nothing is wrong. Ive had the vet out. She tested for lyme and put him on 10 days of bute and rest - which helped slightly but now that hes off the bute we are back to the slight stiffness, leg resting, and the weird stances. Im a little out of my league on this one, ideas? As a side note, I have another quick opinion question. When I had the vet out, she spent about 5 minutes looking at him, and basically told me she didnt know and we could put him on the bute, and I asked for the lyme test just due to a recent section of high brush pasture situation. She also told me she was a little out of her league and I should have one of the lameness specialists in the office out. Before she came I described in detail his symptoms to her. I got my bill, and there is a $78 charge for a lameness evaluation. I find this a little ridiculous - she didnt feel for heat, or even feel around period, just told me she had no clue. I just would have thought it would have been lower, or she should have just told me from the get-go to have another vet out. Dont get me wrong, I love my vet and have used her for 6 years with a whole collection of issues that shes been great for, which is why Im hesitant to call and fuss about this - what do you guys think?
