This is my hero, Lauren Montoya, receiving the the Purple Heart Award. The humvee that she and her six comrades were riding in last Saturday hit a 300lb IED in the middle of the road. Five of the seven were injured. She is in Afghanistan serving our country and helping the women of that country. I have known Lauren since she was a little girl and I am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride. I am thankful that her parents, Rudy and Carol, raised such a selfless human being. I am proud of her commitment to our country and of the fact that she is doing a job that she loves. I am proud that my daughters have such an amazing example of a strong woman. And as a side note, Lauren told me this morning that the Afghan men that were with her helped her and her comrades. What a blessing. I am beside myself with appreciation, love and gratitude. P.S. Keep your political opinions to yourself and take a moment to be genuinely thankful for this country and the women and men that serve and protect us. You will find it feels so much better.
