This is my new vintage L.C. Smith Corona typewriter (circa 1920). The first letter I am typing on it is to my son Joshua, who is in IN pursuing his doctorate at Purdue University. I explained to him this was a form of communication that we used in the pre-digital era. People would sit down and thoughtfully compose an epistle filled with news, good wishes, wisdom, and other sage reflections. Then, I explained, the person would mail it via the U.S. Postal Service, and in a week or so, if the recipient proved a good and faithful correspondent, a reply would arrive. As a service for anyone who would like to receive such a letter for nostalgic reasons or to experience such an event, if you send me a request in a private message with your mailing address (snail mail, of course), I will type you a personal message on this very machine. I cannot guarantee the amount, if any, of pithy wisdom or profound reflection that it might contain.
