This is my oldest brother Norris Earl Smith. He was born on December 14, 1950 and he died on December 16, 1988 at the age of 38 I was 28 at the time. I made a promise that I would finish the CreateSpace process today on his birthday because when I was a little girl he was my big brother. He was an artist and would have gone on to become an architect had Viet Nam not driven him mad. He still managed to go to Jackson State for a while but his illness overtook him. My brother became the guy you see wearing his coat in the summertime and chain smoking Camel cigarettes. He had all kinds of books and he read them all. When he went away, I read them all so I could be close to him. He sent our mother the International Dictionary of Thoughts for her birthday in 1970. I was ten but I read it and it opened my mind. I learned to leave the pains of life and soar on the ideas of writers, poets, philosophers, villians and saints. He is my most active ancestor next to a man I believe is my great great grandfather who came to me in a trance and handed me a stick. He said in a thick southen pidgin dialect, take this chere stick I aint got no pencil, but Im gone give you this stick but YOU got to put the lead in it. So today My Perilous Journey: The Harrowing Tales and Misadventures of Oye No. 1 went to Amazon. Happy Birthday brother I will be to your grave on Tuesday to clean it and leave my offerings. I hope you are as proud of me as I am of you. With Love Baby Sweet.
