This is my recent correspondence with my district BOE and Superintendent. Please consider encouraging your District and BOEs to warn teachers and parents regarding the APPR freight train which is traveling full speed, directly at our teachers and our children: Subject: Re: Governor Cuomos Veto of APPR Protection Bill Dear Trustees and Superintendent For those of you who are unaware of this recent development, Governor Andrew Cuomo has vetoed his own bill designed to temporarily protect teachers from the APPR consequences of student performance on standardized tests. I suspect many teachers as well as administrators are very unaware of the staggering implications of this action. In light of the most recent standardized test scores as well as charter school interest in the Wappingers Central School District and the Governors desire to increase the percentage of rating emphasis on teacher evaluations, this decision has very devastating potential. I hope you are all strongly considering what this means for our teachers, our district and our children. usnews/news/articles/2014/12/30/new-york-gov-andrew-cuomo-vetoes-own-teacher-evaluation-bill Regards, Anne LaValle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Ms. LaValle, Thank you for sharing this information. At our central office, my staff and I have already started to discuss this bill and what it can potentially mean for teachers in our district. Sincerely, Superintendent of Schools The mission of the Wappingers Central School District is to empower all of our students with the competencies and confidence to challenge themselves, to pursue their passions, and to realize their potential while growing as responsible members of their community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Mr. Xxxxxxx, Thank you for your prompt reply. While I am encouraged that your office is discussing the concern, I think it is very important that the teachers, administrators and parents of the district all fully understand the very broad and potentially, extremely negative consequences of this action and it is my sincere hope that you will alert them to the concern. Regards, Anne LaValle
