This is my reply to the article of the person who was instructing Obama on how to change the relations with Cuba. Discussion on The Nation. Six Lessons for Obama on How to Improve Relations With Cuba. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This article is an offense to all of us Cubans who have been suffering for 56 years with the longest dictatorship human kind has experienced. Unfortunately most people dont know the realities of the island and what the Cuban people have been suffering. I feel it is of utmost importance, that those who havent lived or experienced, in your own body and soul, how this government has converted this glorious island into a country of 11 million people living in misery and hopelessness, not comment or give opinions on subjects they know nothing about. It truly does not matter how hard the US government tries to establish a dialogue or improve the relationship between the two countries, as long as it is a dictatorship, that will not happen. In a dictatorship, the only truth, is their truth, and there is no reasoning or possibility of coming to an understanding with a government that doesnt care what anyone else thinks about anything. Its very difficult to see people who go to this amazing island as tourists, and feel they have seen the true situation of what the people go through. It is impossible to experience the suffering as a tourist. Unfortunately, it is those same people that feel they can try to instruct our government which is not only democratic but also an avid advocate of freedom on how to deal with such an obtuse group of unscrupulous criminals. I lived in the island until I was 41 yrs of age, so I experienced all of this in my own flesh and blood. And to this day, if all of the Cuban families in the US dont help our family members in Cuba, they can literally starve to death. What we really need in Cuba is to establish respect for human rights and establish a REAL democracy with REAL free elections. May God bless my beloved homeland and save it from this total disaster. God bless America for allowing me to express myself with absolute freedom of speech, unlike my dear compatriots. Arturo Sandoval
