This is no different from suppliers sponsoring events for ehem... professional organizations. Any event claiming a professionals mind share is suspect. Whats worse is- it starts innocently - the moment you pass the board - if you top it or place in the top 10, youre invited to a paint suppliers dinner, where youre handed out a cash prize. Its called smiling money. Money handed out in advance - with a smile. You think corruption is bad in government? Try the private sector. Does anyone challenge this practice? No. Because everyone is happily playing golf in sponsored tournaments, eating fancy dinners sponsored as learning events. Now - what happens if a supplier / installer screws up the work - do you as a professional who received favors / money up front - can you seriously impose a strict standard on the sponsor If a group of professionals want to play golf/ go bowling, or have a fancy meal... pay your way. Dont get some quota-deprived supplier to sponsor it.
