This is not a new topic for me. Its apparent to anyone who has given the topic even a cursory examination that the Bible, as we know it in the western world, is a self-contradictory work composed by many people over an extended period, many who shaped it according to their political agendas of the time. So its not surprising that this continues to this day, with people picking and choosing parts from the Bible based on their own moral/political agenda. Its unfortunate it cant be viewed for what it is: A book of philosophy that contains many wonderful insights, but is not -- pardon the pun -- the gospel. Personally, I find the Bible, as compelling as many parts are, a lesser piece of philosophy than Marcus Aurelius Meditations and many other tomes that speak to me more deeply and eloquently about the purpose and challenges of life.
