This is not about the Past. It is Coming Soon. June 8, 2014, it is the Feast of the Pentecost. On this day, Patriarch Bartholomeo I of Constantinople will travel to Rome to attend the General Prayer for PeaCE in the Holy Land. Israeli President Shimon Perez and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will attend as well. This is crucial and very significant. This is also to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the meeting of Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras I, where they mutually lifted the mutual excommunication of the Pope of Rome and the Patriarch of Constantinople, which happened in 1054, A.D. Constantinople is in Turkey (now Istanbul) situated in Turkey in Europe. Do you know that there are two Turkeys? Turkey in Europe the capital is Istanbul, separated only by a narrow strait of Bosporus that goes through into the Black Sea (please see your map)from the sea of Marmara, and arm of the Aegean Sea in the Balkans. The Turkey in Asia is the largest portion, the capital city is Ankara. Constantinople is the seat of Greek Orthodoxy in which Bartholomeo I is the Patriarch. How I wish that the East and West shall be reunited after that unfortunate split in 1054. And hope as well that the planned Ecumenical Council in 2025, will pushed through and the Church shall be one again as envisioned by St. John Paul II in his encyclical Ut Unum Sint (That all may be One). The Orthodox Church considered ST. Andrew, the brother of Peter as the First Called. That is why they follow St. Andrew as their own Peter, as it were. After that meeting of Athenagoras I, and Pope Paul VI in 1975, Rome sends delegations to Istanbul during the Feast of St. Andrew on 30th of November. and Istanbul sends delegations to Rome every 29 of June on the Feast of ST. Peter and Paul. This meeting of prayer for peace is much needed for this turbulent time in the Holy Land and the neighboring places. Peace, Peace, Peace is the cry of the Day.
