This is not easy to watch, but it is important, this baby is in DKA after being misdiagnosed, everyone should KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS - YOU MIGHT JUST SAVE A LIFE! I post this statement a lot and people think Im just being dramatic, they scroll by it in their feed, they dont think it can affect them. They wonder how knowing about T1D can save a life, it cant be that serious right??? I wish that was the truth. The truth is that people CAN and DO die if they are not diagnosed in time, and most of the time a diagnosis only comes when a person is so sick they end up in the hospital. This is Tyler, he was 22 months old and in DKA when this video when taken. He had not been diagnosed with T1D yet, his mother just knew he was sick and she took him to the pediatrician who sent them home with a stomach flu diagnosis. She was told to let him sleep it off, but she knew something was very wrong, took this video and immediately brought him to the ER. Tyler was immediately admitted and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She saved his life, as you can see he was having severe difficulty breathing. He spent a week in the Pediatric ICU, in very serious condition. Tyler recovered and today he is just like Luke and 3 million others - fighting T1D every single day. The symptoms may occur suddenly, and include one or more of the following: (most people only show a few not all) and can happen to anyone at any age. • Extreme thirst • Frequent urination • Drowsiness, lethargy • Sugar in urine • Sudden vision changes • Increased appetite • Sudden weight loss • Fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath • Heavy, labored breathing • Stupor, unconsciousness Thank you Erin and Tyler for helping spread awareness and helping us show the world why #weneedacure
