This is not meant to start a political debate, but is a question to see if I understand whats going on. If the sales tax was changed to 7% from May 1 to October 30th and 5% the rest of the year, with meals and lodging taxed at 8%, wouldnt that be an unfunded mandate in the form of a bookkeeping nightmare? If a bed and breakfast or a restaurant had a small gift shop area and someone added a couple of items to their bill, those would have to be taxed and reported separately. Thats just one example of what could be a complete mess. But then, maybe I dont get it.
