This is not set in stone yet, but I think I am looking for a few good volunteers for this Thursday afternoon (7/10) at my house up on Chaney Rd, starting at about 3pm and running a couple to a few hours, partly depending on how many volunteers I get. These lucky volunteers can help me get ready to put on a stunning presentation at an international solar cooking convention and festival in Sacramento and will have a chance to learn how they can cook all sorts of food with the clean, free power of sunshine (and without heating up the house!). Volunteers will mostly be gluing aluminum foil onto cardboard or pressing foil into bowls and baskets, and doing finishing work with metal/aluminum tape. It is not difficult or complicated, and we are working with thinned Elmers glue, so fumes are not an issue. And my new industrial-size roll of two-foot-wide heavy duty foil will make the panels easier to construct and better than ever. All volunteers will have the option to use my materials to make a foil and poster-board cooking panel to take home that can be used with all sorts of bases to make a very effective solar cooker. If the day is at all sunny, there will be at least a couple of solar cookers up and running making treats for volunteers and maybe something for supper, so you will be able to see how they are used and I can give tips while we are working. Some of you may not know this, but I even have an international reputation as a solar cook and developer these days, and this is a chance to workshop with me for free in exchange for helping me get ready for the biggest solar feast I have ever attempted, where I will be feeding people from Asia, Africa, and Europe (not sure if anyone is coming from down-under) as well as the USA. We have AC, and with the new windows it does even better than it used to, so if it is hot that day, this will be an especially cool event to attend. ;) Please post a comment or look me up in the phone book and give me a call if you are interested in joining my crew on Thursday.
