This is not so much about racism per se. It is more about how language is used to dehumanize opponents in order to justify to the public and get cooperation of the masses in planned killings or other extreme actions against those opponents. In our current political environment in the USA and other countries, you can recognize the kind of language Fry is talking about that is now being used by extremists on both ends of the political spectrum, although I have a sense that the far right uses it a bit more aggressively. We are already at the point where the mass media supporting the extremes are constantly repeating the dehumanizing language to increase the level of public desensitization.
