This is not something I have done before as I find the whole loss - TopicsExpress

This is not something I have done before as I find the whole loss of the ones weve loved quite a personal journey. I have been inspired, however by the courage, honesty and bravery of me dear friend Toni Heming to take time to pay tribute to those that have passed. What better way to keep them alive in the hearts and minds of us all. Tomorow marks the day, 20 years ago, that our family braced ourselves for the reality that Melissa had lost her four year fight with Leukaemia. I watched on in despair as I witnessed the pain that the loss of a child can bring to parents. I will never forget it. Melissa was 22 when she died and 18 when she was first diagnosed. A time when the rest of us are spreading our wings and launching in to the world! Sharing my stubborn and determined streak she faced this battle head on and never gave up the fight. Even in those last moments! It is not her death that haunts me so much now, but the constant wonder around the type of person she would have been. My feeling is she would have been strong, determined, successful, the Mother of 2 adopted children ( this was always her plan), driven by honesty and integrity, loyal to her family, a great friend, compassionate and wise, with a warm smile, hilarious laugh and beautiful big blue eyes. Whats not to love and miss??? Ill share a little story that still makes me laugh and cry at the same time and is a testament to her honesty. Whilst lying in our bedroom one night, she 15 and me 12, she turned and said Can I ask you something, but you have to be really honest? Me Yeh, of course Melissa Do you think Im pretty Me Yeh Melissa How pretty, like really, really pretty I hesitated because although I thought she was pretty, I probably wouldt go that far! I lied and said Yeh! She was chuffed. My turn!! Me Do you think Im pretty? Melissa No, not really! What do you say! Game, Set and Match!!!! Thanks for taking the time to help me honour this amazing person. I love you heaps Lissy and miss you to bits! R.I.P Always. xxxxx
