This is old news, I know. Thought Id say that before any Nos got in there, But this really isnt about the McCrone report or its damning content. Its about what happened after: Hiding the report as top sectret because it supported the 1979 independence arguement casually moving the maritime borders on several occasions to suit Westminsters purposes THATCHER Poll tax annihilation of mining, steelworks and engineering THATCHERS legacy of self serving right wing politicians in every party giving us a one party system in all but name. recession soaring interest rates in the 80s an entire generation now approaching retirement that have struggled through the legacy of the 80s only to find another right wing government leading us into another recession and whats happening this time? same stories of gloom and doom from westminster, same promises that wed all be better together, same probability that the promised new powers will disappear like phantoms in the glare of direct scrutiny. This is about a proven track history of lying, broken promises and open hostility for daring to stand up for ourselves. The political landscape in the UK is different from the late 70s...No its not! then we had a right wing government with an unassailable majority and an opposition in disarray, now we have a 3 main party system that are all thoroughly embedded far right of centre. with a new right wing one on the ascendancy just to make the rest look reasonable. For the record, until the last Scottish elections I was a firm labour supporter but Ive watched the labour movement move in the wrong direction, its lost all its values and adopted a short term gain me me me attitude and abandoned its left wing stance - thats why SNP were able to sweep them aside, they at least had the ear of the people and heard what they wanted. In Scotland Labour needs to get out from under its Westminster overlords and regain the left, it needs to get some proper leadership and not the wee noddy dugs it currently has. THEN, in an independent Scotland, it may become the political force it was designed to be! As long as we are held in the Westminster grip NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. rant over ;)
