Yet, it never seems as obvious to him that if he wants to live in love, he must spend at least as much time as the auto mechanic or the gourmet chef in studying love.” - Leo Buscaglia Now, I am far from a relationship expert, but I have studied this area of my life for the last 10 years. Why? Because I had very few positive love relationship influences and examples in my life. By the time I was 15 years old, I had experienced 5 divorces between my parents. So in my early 20s I started reading books on the subject of love. I started consciously spending time with couples that had created extraordinary love relationships. I wasnt ready to be in a love relationship at the time, but I was deeply curious if it was even possible for one to exist given my upbringing. As I reflect on my past relationships, I realize that Ive been an amazing partner and a terrible one. Ive been the cause of deep happiness as well as the cause of deep pain. Ive loved, Ive lusted, and Ive lied. And I wouldnt trade my journey or experiences for anything in the world. Because BEING IN A LOVE RELATIONSHIP IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PERSONAL GROWTH. You cannot create an epic love relationship unconsciously. And for an area of your life that holds the most intense pleasure or intense pain, doesnt it make sense to invest time and energy to learning about love? As I said before, Im far from an expert on this subject. But damn am I dedicated to experiencing the depths of what love could create in this life.
