This is one of the best articles on the state of our executive and legislative politics that Ive ever read. Thats exactly what the last six years have been. A slow-motion lynching. And liberals are just as guilty as conservatives. I agree totally that the prime qualification for membership in Congress should be intelligence. But then, they wouldnt represent the American people, who are among the dumbest collective on earth. But Congress didnt represent them in the First and Second Congresses, either. The representatives were the cream of their colonies/states, in an era when most people couldnt read. What has caused this problem is the lies that have been told for a century now about America by Americans. This idea of citizen politicians was never part of the American ethos, and yet that legend has become as accepted as George Washington and the cherry tree, or Lincoln being from Illinois, or that paying taxes stifles growth - all of which are false stories told to push an agenda. I am sick this morning that, on the anniversary of that horrible day thirteen years ago, Pres Obama has been bullied and blackmailed into doing exactly what he knows he shouldnt do: Run the risk of passing an unwinnable and drudge-filled and incomplete war onto his successor, just as his predecessor did to him. The only way to eliminate the threat of an organization such as ISIS or ISIL is to use our almost inconceivable military power to turn Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Pakistan, and Syria into holes in the ground. Just bomb them into non-existence. And the entire world knows we will never (nor should we) do that. And even that would probably only halt their progress for 2 generations. This problem can never be solved. Not as long as there are nearly seven billion humans on the planet. But it can be successfully dealt with. And I am very glad and very proud that in these perilous times we have a president who is smarter and capable of much more critical thinking than virtually anyone with whom he well ever meet, and who does not have that fatal sense of Fire-Ready-Aim that former chief executives have had.
