This is one of the best things Ive read on this topic. Like Rachman, I started out with limited interest in Scots indepependence, but have come to feel increasingly concerned with its implications, for many of the reasons cited by Rachman. Not least, as a naturalised British citizen (1978), I am dismayed that the integrity of the country I joined is in the hands of c7-8% of the UK electorate, all of them living north of the border. Does raise some questions re what democracy means when it comes to making a decision of national significance.
