This is one of the many drawbacks of police being armed for war on the pretense that it is protecting us from terrorists or foreign invaders. Crime is far lower than its been in decades....where 30 years ago beat cops had a 38 special and SWAT teams were for extraordinarily rare circumstances like bank robberies we now see police who look like they are fighting a war. Why did we give them this gear? Not because of increased crime or because of logic....but because of fear of terrorist invaders. Well, when the invaders never come the police need something to do to test out thier new gear and tactics...even if it means attacking peaceful college students. This is the domestic standing army we were warned about. This might be the most valuable lesson these students learn in college.
