This is one of those years where its fairly obvious what is going to win Best Picture at the 2014 Oscars. 12 years a slave has tons of momentum, and the critics have gone gaga over it. I dont think anything is going to stop this juggernaut of a movie from winning. Theres some buzz around Gravity, but I dont think it really has more than a fighting chance against 12 years. It looks pretty open and shut. In my opinion, Rush was slightly better, but the Academy seldom rewards movies with car racing as source material. I think 12 years is the second-best movie of 2013, and I wont be that upset to see it when. This is no way detracts from the other movies this year. The bar has been set so high this year that many movies like Captain Phillips would have been a shoe-in for Best Picture if they came out one or two years earlier. This is the most incredible year Ive ever seen in movies for as long as Ive been alive. 12 year a slave is going to coast to Best Picture unless I have reason to believe another movie will challenge it at some point. And for what its worth, it is a brilliant film.
