This is our final post to our series on HOW TO STAY HEALTHY IN COLD AND FLU SEASON with some interesting excerpts from a recent article in the Wall Street Journal.... GET A SOCIAL LIFE? Interacting with lots of people would seem to multiply your chances for catching a bug. But a Carnegie Mellon study suggests a dynamic social life offers a hedge against respiratory illness. Researchers exposed a group of people to a cold virus, then waited to see who came down with the sniffles. Those with the most social networks-such as club memberships, work friendships or participation in a faith community-were least likely to get sick. Relative loners were more susceptible. Communion with others may help by alleviating stress, but the study didnt address that. This concludes our series of how to stay healthy in cold and flu season. Thank you to Beth Howard from the Wall Street Journal who wrote the article (encore@wsj) Wishing you continued good health from your friends here at Great Northern Rehab. Enjoy your weekend!
