This is part one of an in-depth investigation from the San Jose Mercury News on medicating kids in foster care in California. The video clips and interviews put a human face on the problem, and share the complexity: there are kids who need medication, but there are kids taking too much... Randall said children stay on the meds for reasons that are not necessarily heinous. It’s not that doctors want to get kids on a ton of meds. They’re putting out fires, and not allowed the time. The system is set up in a way that everyone is adding, adding, adding, and doesn’t allow for a space to safely take them off.
